To provide training to Area Action Teams that will encompass the 5 core components of the collective impact model, to update overall work in progress, and identify opportunities to support and collaborate the work.
HHD MBK VISTAs will create a volunteer recruitment and management system in which parents will be recruited from the selected low income, low school performing communities as volunteers to be trained as VISTAs. These VISTAs will then organize and mobilize other parents to become leaders in their homes, children's schools and their communities.
To provide high quality summer enrichment programing through the CDF Freedom Schools program model to the MBK Houston Action Areas. The summer of 2017 there will be one MBK sponsored CDF Freedom School in the Wheatley, the Kashmere and the Scarborough feeder patterns. A total of 150 children, in grades K-12th, will be served at each site.
MBK schools are primarily located in neighborhoods that are economically disadvantaged. Many times additional supports that would ordinarily be brought to the school by a better resourced Parent Teacher Organization are not available in these schools. A school champion fills a vital role in providing additional support to a school to be needs for students that might otherwise been met by families with more resources or by a supportive organization like a PTO.
