Youth Activities Assistant

POSITION: Youth Coordinator
LOCATION: Fifth-Ward Multi-Service Center
SUPERVISOR(S):None
JOB SUMMARY:The Youth Activities Assistant reports to the Assistant Youth Coordinator and primarily responsibility for planning, coordinating activities for the Youth Center with emphasis on coaching youth in various activities. This position will also assist in the maintenance of the facility as deemed appropriate and needed.
DUTIES AND RESONSBILITIES: : (Major responsibilities and target accomplishments expected of the position including the typical problems encountered in carrying out the responsibilities.)


  1. The individual will work flexible hours doing planning, coordinating and supervising activities that may or may not be on site
  2. Provide assistance to those staff responsible for holding youth groups that deal with alcohol/drug abuse.
  3. Prepare and complete all paperwork (permission slips, posters, etc.) including, but not limited to requisitions with required back up for activities.
  4. Work with staff on maintaining the Youth Center.
  5. Attend and participate in staff and other meetings, in-service, training or other events as directed by supervisor.
  6. Work as a team player with youth and other staff when needed with activities or other Youth Center sponsored/collaborative events.
  7. Present as a positive role model in the community.
  8. Present a professional, caring image for the Multi-Service Center (MSC) and the MBK Youth Center.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

General knowledge of various youth activities

SKILLS:

The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have High School Diploma or GED. Demonstrated work experience or volunteer work with Tribal or other youth programs. Demonstrate the ability to relate to youth and be sensitive to youth issues/concerns. The applicant must have good written and verbal skills. Prefer individual with prior coaching experience. Must have valid driver's license and can clear a background check.

PERSONAL CONTACTS:Individual will have daily contact with youth and staff and may work with community members or other individuals from other Reservations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSIndividual should be in good physical condition and be able to keep up with the demands of overseeing activities. The position may be required to do bending, lifting, sweeping, carrying of objects less than 25 pounds, and running.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Most of the time will be spent at the Youth Center. There will also be activities at other Reservations. Youth Center is a non-smoking building
